The tool, Where Am I Now?, assesses the stage of change that participants are at on different aspects of family formation and
father involvement (For more information on the Stages of Change click here.) The tool is given twice to participants:
- At the beginning of the first class so that participants gain a sense of where they are in the stages of family formation
and father involvement. The information also guides program implementers on the specific needs and issues of the participants.
They can then tailor the educational sessions to these specific needs.
- At the end of the program so that participants responses can be compared with their responses at the beginning of the
program. Program managers compare pre- and post-program data to assess the impact of the program.
The tool allows participants to identify the stage of change in four outcome areas:
A table is given for the instructor to use in scoring participants' self assessments. This form will be completed for the pretest and
the posttest. The Family Formation Analysis Table identifies the participants' stage of change in the four outcome categories of
father involvement, parenting together, marriage readiness, and family and parenting relationships.
To score:
- Give one point per response (A to E).
- Write the total number of responses for each box checked in columns A to E for the statements in each category in the space provided.
- Use the highest score to estimate what stage the participant is in for each category listed.
